ELECTRONICS OVERHAUL FOR OUR INNOVATION LAB

WÜRTH ELEKTRONIK - UPGRADING THE ELECTRONICS LAB

MotionLab.Berlin's new partnership with Würth Elektronik has enabled a complete overhaul of our Electronics Lab, providing access to essential resources. Explore how we've improved our innovation lab for your electronic prototyping needs, making it the perfect space for your next project.

MotionLab.Berlin’s new partnership with Würth Elektronik has enabled a complete overhaul of our Electronics Lab, providing access to essential resources and making it the perfect space for your electronic prototyping needs.

Being a maker in the hardtech space requires a variety of machines, tools, and raw materials. For electrical designers and engineers, the range of raw materials and components needed to create, test, modify, and complete a successful prototype seems endless.

That’s why MotionLab.Berlin is excited to launch our partnership with Würth Elektronik. Their generous sponsorship has facilitated a recent upgrade and ensures the ongoing restock of the Electronic Lab. This upgrade of our innovation lab aims to make the space more functional and organised. It ensures that everything you might need to build an electrical prototype is both easy to find and available for use.

A COLLABORATIVE SPACE FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS

“I hope this upgrade will encourage more people with little to no background in electronics to get involved with some of the collaborative projects we will be working on going forward. And, of course, for the seasoned professionals, we will have an exponentially better time getting our work done in there,” says Brodie O’Sullivan, MotionLab.Berlin’s Electronics Lab instructor.

Brodie has been leading the upgrade, working alongside Lau Licciardi (Head of Hubs) and Paul Marx (Makerspace Manager). Over the past several weeks, he has cleared out the space to accommodate the substantial influx of new design kits and consumables from Würth Elektronik. These resources will now be available for free, unlimited use by professional members at our innovation lab in Alt-Treptow.

“For me, these design kits are the first step in MotionLab.Berlin becoming a center for people to create and test their own printed circuit boards (PCBs) in Berlin. PCBs are the cornerstone of modern technology. I want people to be able to build anything they can imagine at MotionLab.Berlin. Besides that, the Würth design kits will be fantastic for every hardware project you can think of, anything from audio equipment to automation to lighting. I can’t wait to see what the amazing engineers and artists here can make with the new kits,” says Brodie.

CELEBRATING OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH WÜRTH ELEKTRONIK

A special event, WE Day, was hosted at MotionLab.Berlin on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to celebrate the new partnership. We have brought together tech enthusiasts, professionals, and students for a day of learning and hands-on experience in the field of electronics and IoT. The event also marked the official launch of the upgraded Electronic Lab.

Leading up to the launch, the MotionLab.Berlin team was buzzing with excitement. Brodie remarked, “Opening all the boxes from Würth felt like being a kid on Christmas again. I genuinely hope to share that feeling with everyone when we open the new lab.”

At WE Day, several electronics experts from Würth led workshops, lectures, and a Q&A session. The event took place at MotionLab.Berlin’s innovation lab in Alt-Treptow. Topics covered included EMC/EMI, crimping techniques, high-current connections, and wireless connectivity. Additionally, the Würth demo truck was on-site, accompanied by RedExpert YouTuber “Ask Lorandt”. It provided the perfect setting for the electronics community to gather. They exchanged knowledge and got hands-on experience with the brand new Würth Elektronik design kits.

WHAT IS AVAILABLE IN OUR INNOVATION LAB?

Moving forward, there will be a long list of consumables now available in the Electronics Lab. This includes passive components, power modules, digital isolators, optoelectronic and electromechanical components, a variety of switches, connectors, and assembly components. Plus, a digital catalog will be accessible in the lab, and an online ordering system will make refills easy.

A big thank you to Würth Group for playing a crucial role in creating a space where electronic designers, engineers, and enthusiasts can build and bring their projects to life.
