Let’s dive again into our MotionLab.Ventures startup portfolio! Today we would like to introduce you to the startup that has been with us since the very beginning: Lite&Fog.

Welcome to another episode of the blog series on our startup investment support MotionLab.Ventures. A couple of weeks ago, we introduced you to the latest startup out of our MotionLab.Ventures startup portfolio, infresh. Today we would like to introduce you to the startup that has been with us since the very beginning: Lite&Fog.

Under the leadership of the two co-founders Martin Peter and Uwe Peter, Lite&Fog envisions a new era in agriculture – one built on sustainability, self-reliance, and energy efficiency instead of local resources. They are crafting a future where agriculture works in harmony with nature, and every advancement brings them closer to a more sustainable and connected world.

Lite&Fog, a pioneer in the agricultural industry, revolutionising farming through fogponics technology, and they have been with us along our MotionLab.Ventures journey for the longest time. So let’s dive into their vision, journey, and future together.

This is Lite&Fog and their innovation for a more sustainable future in agriculture using fogponics.
This agriculture technology based on fogponics is developed by Lite&Fog. Here you can see the model M.

UNIQUE APPROACH TO AGRICULTURE THROUGH FOGPONICS

Lite&Fog distinguishes itself through innovative fogponics technology, reimagining plant nurturing.

Lite&Fog distinguishes itself through innovative fogponics technology, reimagining plant nurturing.

Instead of conventional flowing water, a delicate mist encircles plant root systems suspended in air. Martin explains, “It’s a game-changer, cutting down significantly on construction and maintenance costs while boosting harvests through enhanced plant metabolism.”

To be more specific: The startup specialises in fogponics, a groundbreaking agriculture technology that cultivates plant-based molecules for medicine, cosmetics, and other products. Their fogponics system delivers nutrient-rich fog directly to plant roots, optimising growth, increasing molecule production, and reducing water usage. This sustainable technology approach revolutionises molecular farming, making it more affordable, accessible, and eco-friendly, while ensuring the production of high-quality plant-based compounds. The main reason for the efficiency of this sustainable technology is based on the fact that the round surfaces and the resulting ability to rotate the inner part of the modules developed by Lite&Fog significantly increases the size of the surface and the efficiency of the light. Additionally, the application of fog allows the use of fabrics instead of steel, which also contributes to an increased efficiency.

VISION & MISSION

Lite&Fog are working towards more than just creating sustainable technologies; they want to craft a future where agriculture works in harmony with nature to create a more sustainable and connected world. “Our vision is centered on pioneering a new era in agriculture, one that’s built on the pillars of sustainability, self-reliance, and energy instead of local resources.”

“Our mission is about bridging gaps – connecting the dots between groundbreaking research and practical, industrial applications.” With a commitment to transforming scientific possibilities into real-world solutions that become integral parts of our agricultural practices, they aim to foster a future where agriculture is both sustainable and economically viable.

WHY DID LITE&FOG CHOOSE MOTIONLAB.VENTURES?

Martin says MotionLab.Ventures aligns perfectly with their vision and has the added benefit of understanding the specific needs and challenges a hardware startup faces on their journey. “From the very beginning, they’ve been true partners in the fullest sense of the word. What sets MotionLab.Ventures apart for us was their genuine understanding of the unique challenges and needs faced by a hardware-centric startup like ours.”

He outlines that MotionLab.Ventures not only provides them with financial support, but also with in-kind services tailored to their needs in order to support them holistically along the way. MotionLab.Ventures’ expertise is seen as invaluable in filling the gaps in skills and experience that startups often face. He acknowledges the comprehensive support that MotionLab.Ventures provides, addressing immediate challenges and building a strong foundation for sustainable growth. “Their support is tailored to our specific needs, making their assistance incredibly effective,” he says.

In conclusion, Martin sees this collaboration as a nurturing environment where the ideas and ambitions of Lite&Fog can flourish and their commitment to a new era in agriculture can be strengthened.

LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE

Lite&Fog's upcoming developments and future plans emphasise the transformative power of its sustainable technology based on fogponics on a global scale.

Lite&Fog’s upcoming developments and future plans emphasise the transformative power of its sustainable technology based on fogponics on a global scale.

Lite&Fog‘s upcoming advancements underscore the transformative power of its technology. Martin shares, “One of the most significant strides we’re making is in the realm of efficiency. By harnessing the potential of fog, we’re not just tweaking the existing system; we’re revolutionizing it, enabling farms to triple their cost efficiency and slash energy usage by more than half.” Lite&Fog is set to become a global leader in large-scale industrial farming projects, with a clear long-term goal of being synonymous with sustainable and efficient agriculture technology on a global stage.

The sustainable technology is pivotal in reshaping industries beyond agriculture, aiming to be a catalyst for sectors like molecular farming and regenerative medicine. He states, “Beyond agriculture, our innovations based on fogponics technology have the potential to revolutionize fields like science, research, and medicine, unleashing the untapped potential of plants as powerhouses of innovation. […] So our technology is a key architect in the construction of a New Agriculture [a vision focused on saving nature and humanity from the brink of an ecological and existential crisis], paving the way for groundbreaking advancements across multiple fields.”

In the short term, growing their team is a central goal as well. Lite&Fog’s success is rooted in its dynamic team and fresh perspectives. The focus is on adding key experts in technological design, AI data scientists, and plant scientists. Martin reveals, “Our hiring strategy is centered around expanding our core team to over ten members by 2024 while maintaining a lean and effective structure.”

GROWTH, DEVELOPMENTS, AND GLOBAL COLLABORATIONS

Lite&Fog’s roadmap includes significant developments, partnerships, and innovations in the near future.

Lite&Fog’s roadmap includes significant developments, partnerships, and innovations in the near future.

Martin says, “This year, we’re thrilled to introduce our first Model L, a major step forward in our product line. Alongside this, we’re finalizing three major partnerships in Israel, the UK, and Qatar, with another promising opportunity in Singapore. Additionally, we’re making great strides in our strategic production partnership in Germany. This involves collaborating with suppliers to co-develop and design larger-scale farming solutions. On the innovation front, we’re in the process of securing 3 more patents, further strengthening our intellectual property portfolio. Our team is also growing stronger.”

Are you interested in working alongside Martin, Uwe, and the Lite&Fog team to further develop their unique fogponics innovation and shape a more sustainable future in agriculture? Working as an employee for Lite&Fog means experimenting with plasma-driven fog, exploring ionised water retention techniques, and developing AI-based algorithms to analyse plant growth. Martin describes it as an opportunity to be among the first in the world to work on these pioneering topics.

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF AGRICULTURE AND BEYOND

“People underestimate the power of networks. My biggest learning was, that every discussion, every sales pitch ends well if you leave it with two more people to call. Either to get deeper, find another opinion or just expand your reach and understanding about your product. So for every reader – please forward this Interview to one or two people that might like it. By them doing the same, it will reach the exactly right person in no time!” says Martin Peter.

In conclusion, Lite&Fog‘s journey is not just about fogponics; it’s a narrative of innovation, sustainability, and a commitment to shaping the future of agriculture and beyond. Stay tuned for more exciting developments from this visionary startup that is working towards making a significant impact on the world.
