Sustainability in the aircraft and drone industry cannot be taken for granted. It will be a long process to make aircraft and drones more efficient and sustainable.

The electric battery technology of drones is cheap, but the range is currently very limited. This is why so many manufacturers are reverting to fuel engine technology. 

Red Arrow Technologies is one of our six startups of batch 2 of our startup accelerator program Hardtech Innovation. Their mission: Redefining aerospace. “We think technical progress requires a constant succession of revolution and evolution. A process that must never end.” Ultimately, the team wants to clear the path to an economically feasible use of green fuels.

THE INNOVATIVE JET ENGINE TECHNOLOGY FOR DRONES

The team of three are currently working on a new engine technology, they call it the “Heron Fan”.

The team of three are currently working on a new engine technology, they call it the “Heron Fan”.

According to the team, their innovative jet engine for drones will be cheaper, lighter, more reliable and efficient. 

What is different about their engine technology compared to the existing ones? 

Finn, the team’s aerospace engineer explains: “Our new engine technology combines three key components into one, making it both energy and cost efficient. It also reduces the CO2 emissions and makes the aircraft fly further. This way we can enable cleaner and safer aircraft with new possibilities.” 

The two other co-founders are business economist Christian and mechanical engineer Mehmet. They have had the idea in their heads for a long time. So their plan for participating in the program was to build their first fully functional prototype with the goal to receive funding and close partnerships. The program is almost finished and the team can confirm: “We are so excited to announce that we are close to finishing and testing our first fully functional prototype! With the program and the first finished prototype we can also boost our credibility!”

LEARNINGS & DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE PROGRAM

In the program the most important thing for the team was the workshops, coaching and the labs for prototyping on their engine technology. Also they benefit from the coaching sessions and the network the most. 

“In the program we realized that it is very important to always test your assumptions early and have Plan B and C in case something goes wrong. Nothing is guaranteed until it actually happens.”

The market entry is planned for 2027 and with their finished prototype of the engine technology the team can start their first funding round soon!
