Shopping. Everyone does it, not everyone likes it. But behind the shopping for clothes are different processes that are often invisible to us. In addition to production and the cultivation of raw materials, textile recycling is also an important aspect. Especially if we want to move towards a more sustainable circular fashion industry.
Textile sorting is part of this recycling process and crucial in the clothing industry for several reasons. It involves the categorization and classification of textiles based on various criteria such as material type, color, and condition. This process is crucial in industries like textile recycling, garment manufacturing, and retail but it is also very important when it comes to accomplishing circular business models in the fashion industry. The goal is to reduce textile waste, minimize environmental impact, and contribute to circular economy practices and circular fashion.
Yet, there is a big issue with this process: Textile sorting is currently still very labor-intensive, error-prone, and inefficient. And this is where startup Redivivum comes in: “Our idea is simple yet impactful: To automate garment evaluation and sorting processes, addressing critical challenges such as labor shortages, inefficiencies, and the increasing volumes of textile waste. We are on a mission to revolutionize the textile industry through our innovative automation solutions.”
THE TEAM & THEIR SOLUTION IN TEXTILE SORTING
By integrating automation and digitalization in the textile recycling process Redivivum develops a solution to make textile sorting more sustainable, accurate and productive.
Redivivum’s goal is to use automation and digitalization for a more efficient and accurate approach for textile sorting. The combination of hardware and software solution aims to bring more digital insights and data as well as a strong increase in overall productivity and accuracy.
The two founders, Szilvia and Aron have not only diverse backgrounds in engineering, software development, and sustainability but are also united by a shared vision of driving positive change in the textile industry. They met at the university and have been working together on the topic of textile waste for 3 years now.
Szilvia is the CEO and co-founder of Redivivum. With her background in fashion, she brings a unique perspective to the mission, blending industry expertise with a commitment to sustainability. The second mastermind behind Redivivum is Aron, its co-founder and CTO. With his background in mechanical engineering, Aron is the technical brain behind the innovative textile recycling automation technology.
Rounding out the team is Gerzson, the Data Architect. With over 10 years of experience in machine learning development and research, he’s the person ensuring the technology operates at its peak performance.

REDIVIVUM’S MILESTONES & PROCESS
Redivivum achieves significant milestones during the accelerator program, focusing on product development, networking, and market validation.
The team came to the Hardtech Innovation accelerator program with the goal to refine the product and secure funding for further growth. Szilvia reviews the milestones within the program: “The program was an awesome experience that has played a huge role in our journey and success!
- Product Development – Our goal was to finalize the development of our prototype and conduct initial testing in the textile recycling process. We successfully completed this milestone and received positive feedback from early users, validating the market demand for our solution.
- Networking – Our aim was to establish partnerships with key stakeholders in the industry and build relationships with potential investors. Through networking events and workshops, we expanded our network and made valuable connections that have opened up new opportunities for collaboration and funding.
- Market Validation – Our goal was to validate our product-market fit and gain traction in the industry. We conducted market research, engaged with potential customers, and received positive feedback on our solution. As a result, we’ve gained traction in the market and established ourselves as a trusted solution provider in our target industry.”
ACCELERATOR TAKEAWAYS & NEXT STEPS
“An experience we will never forget!”
Aaron remembers: “The program really had our back when we needed it most. Whether we were refining our product or figuring out our business model, we had the support we needed to keep going. Sure, there were challenges along the way, but with the program’s help and the awesome community, we were able to push through, keep moving forward and learn to embrace failure. Overall, the Hardtech Innovation program was a game-changer for us, the mentors, the networking, the personal growth – it all added up to an experience we’ll never forget.”
Their biggest learning in the program? The importance of market validation, good feedback and strong resilient relationships. After the program the Redivivum team will continue their journey to turn their big vision of driving change in textile recycling into reality. Their current plans involve scaling up, reaching new markets and also developing new innovative ideas. “Our dream is to shake up the textile industry by making automated garment sorting the new norm. Picture a world where textile companies everywhere are using Redivivum’s technology to work smarter, waste less, and do their bit for the planet. That’s the future we’re aiming for – a future where sustainability meets efficiency, and we’re leading the charge!”
