CUSTOMISED 3D PRINTED CAMPER VAN INTERIOR

“There is a symbiotic relationship between human health and the health of our ecosystems. Our built environment directly impacts this relationship. We are starting small with camper van interior to make healthier built environments using additive manufacturing!”

“There is a symbiotic relationship between human health and the health of our ecosystems. Our built environment directly impacts this relationship. We are starting small with camper van interior to make healthier built environments using additive manufacturing!”

The 4th team out of our startup accelerator program Hardtech Innovation we want to introduce you to is Materialogic. Their goal is to create mass customised 3D printed camper van interior using 3D scanning and parametric 3D modelling technology.

The bigger vision behind it? “Camper van interior is the pilot industry but we will take our automated manufacturing method into other automotive, transportation, and architectural interior industries. Our aim is that every material in the van interior is either biodegradable or recyclable and this is why we opt to use bio-composites and other highly renewable resources.”

By using 3D scanning, parametric 3D modelling and large format 3D printing it is possible to print entire camper van interior in 48 hours. The target groups are van enthusiasts, camper van rental companies, and van manufacturers.

Materialogic, a startup out of our hardtech innovation accelerator program, develops 3d printed customized camper van interior.

THE TEAM, PASSIONS AND VISIONS

Who is the team?

We have Max, Joep and Jildou. All three love to make things and have Dutch roots. They believe that the future of manufacturing is automated, driven by technology and of course, sustainable. “We are passionate about bringing manufacturing into the future with these tools!”

Max is the Industrial Designer of the team and the camper van interior. He studied at the Art Center College of Design in California (oh, we are jealous!) and his skills are mostly in visual communication, rapid prototyping, 3d rendering, user testing and user research. Joep, trained as a Master Cabinetmaker, spent 20 years in aircraft interior completions for private jets and fabricating residential and commercial interiors in New York. He focuses on automation and CAD/CAM integration. Jildou is the third creative mind in the team. She studied Design Driven Innovation and International Communication. Now her passion is Design Thinking, User Research, UX/UI and Design of camper van interior.

LEARNINGS & DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE PROGRAM

Collaboration, feedback, machinery, input and workshops - it all is very crucial for the team as their camper van interior idea is related to 3d printing, but also combining different technologies.

Collaboration, feedback, machinery, input and workshops – it all is very crucial for the team as their idea is related to 3d printing, but also combining different technologies.

The most important reason why they joined our 6-month Hardtech Innovation accelerator program for early-stage startups: Being able to launch the business with a supporting network around. Collaboration, feedback, machinery, input and workshops – it all is very crucial for the team as their 3d printed camper van interior idea is related to 3d printing, but also combining different technologies. “So far we mostly benefit from the feedback sessions, the community, pitching events and machinery.”

What are the most important learnings from the team so far?

The next big milestones for Materialogic is to finish 3D printing the camper van interior for a Volkswagen van and continue working with their pilot customers. The team is also currently looking for funding options after the program and manufacturing partner.
